Architecture Firm of Record: Cooper Johnson Smith Architects, Inc.
Principal in Charge: Doug Johnson
Sited on a 55 acre parcel donated by the island’s namesake and named for his wife, this municipal park on Davis Islands which contains a marina and two buildings which were adaptively restored as part of this project for the City of Tampa.
The second of the two existing buildings on the site is the historic Gatehouse Building, built in 1925. The scope of work for the Gatehouse included the total gutting of the existing structure. Offices for police and park maintenance and public restroom facilities were created. The building’s original exterior was maintained while replacing the building’s dilapidated roof and windows.
