South Tampa Office Building
Architecture Firm of Record: Cooper Johnson Smith Architects, Inc.
Principal-in-Charge: Stephen Smith
Project Architect: Kevin Jarman
Contractor: Dagasa, Inc.
Built in 2006 and located on a Swann Avenue site adorned with an enormous grand oak tree that had been negatively impacted by a previous structure, this two-story office building was configured so as to protect the tree while maximizing leasable area for the client. At 12,424 sf, this building is within two square feet of the maximum allowed for the number of parking spaces provided.
Configured so that tenants could assume space from an entire floor all the way down to an executive suite, the building is organized around a central core that includes an internal stairway, elevator, and restrooms. Mechanical and Electrical spaces are contained under open air exterior stairs that egress to the rear parking lot.
Cast in place poured arches, sloped window sills and non-fluted Doric columns complement the Mediterranean influenced Architecture with thickened base, tile roof and exposed rafter tails.
